President Junaid Altaf highlights issues associated with Pharma industries
DRAP officials inform about reforms initiatives for development and improvement of Pharma industries
PESHAWAR: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan to declare Hayatabad Industrial Estate as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) Park.
The chamber also demanded for establishment of a state of the art Quality Control (QC) laboratory in Peshawar. It stressed pragmatic steps for amicable addressing issues allied with pharma industries and boost this potential sector, which has enormous contribution in economic stability and growth, job creation in the country.
These demands were made by SCCI President Junaid Altaf while chairing a session on Promotion of Basic and Semi-Basic Drug Manufacturing in Pakistan, organized by Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan here at the chamber house on Friday.
Chairman Center Licensing Board, DRAP Dr Noor Muhammad Shah, Deputy Director Licensing/Sectoral of the Consultative Committee Abdullah, Pharmacist/Academician Prof Dr Fazle Nasir, FID DRAP Peshawar Shahid Nawaz and Adnan Shahidullah were the keynote speakers at the session.
In the session, Senior vice president Muhammad Nadeem, Vice president Sabir Ahmad Bangash, members of the SCCI’s executive committee Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, Aftab Iqbal, Safiullah Khan, Sultan Muhammad, Gul Zaman, Mujeebur Rehman, Adnan Nasir and CEO KPEZMDC Adil Salauddin, renowned Pharma Industry head Fawad Altaf, former senior president of the chamber Engr Saad Khan Zahid, Muhammad Arshad Siddiqui, and industrialists, traders associated with Pharma sector were physically and through video link present in a large number during the session.
DRAP officials on the occasion enlightened about reforms initiatives, boost of the Pharma industries and ease in licensing process and encouraging the basic and semi-basic manufacturing, highlighted rapid growth in pharma industries due to promotion and ease policies.
Experts attached with the pharma sector highlighted major issues, policies drawbacks that became potential causes of stagnation in pharmaceutical production and rapid decline of the sector.
Speakers stressed it is highly crucial to establish a close liaison between Pharma industry, academia and DRAP/relevant authorities to address the issue with joint efforts and initiatives.
The participants unanimously suggested forming a joint committee and devising a mechanism for addressing issues allied with the Pharma industry.
The SCCI chief said the KP Pharma industry is at a tall end, which has been facing enormous challenges and issues, which needed to be addressed with joint initiatives.
The Pharma industry is an important sector, which also has great advantage due to close proximity to Afghanistan and Central Asian Republic market, says Junaid Altaf.
The chamber president emphasized that it is a dire need of hour to take tangible steps to address issues associated with Pharma industries and encourage the investment in the potential sector.
