President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Malik Imran Ishaq, along with Businessmen Forum Group Leader Ghazanfar Bilour, held an important meeting with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi to highlight the challenges and economic difficulties faced by Peshawar’s business community and seek practical measures for their resolution at the government level.
SCCI Senior Vice President Naeem ur Rehman and Vice President Abid Parvez Awan were also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the SCCI President highlighted concerns regarding ongoing anti-encroachment operations, fair compensation for affected traders, provision of alternative arrangements, and protection of the business community’s legitimate rights and interests.
In view of the province’s challenging economic situation, Malik Imran Ishaq urged the Governor to facilitate a special economic relief package for the trade and industrial sectors. The Governor assured him of his support in presenting the Chamber’s recommendations at relevant forums, including the Prime Minister’s Office.
The stalled Peshawar Expo Centre project was also discussed. Taking notice of the matter, the Governor raised the issue with the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Industries and Production to facilitate the project’s early revival and further progress.
The SCCI President also emphasized the need to restore acceptance of Sarhad Chamber’s recommendation letters for visa issuance to verified Chamber members engaged in business activities in Peshawar. The Governor directed that the matter be taken up with the relevant authorities for consideration.
To ensure the effective and lasting resolution of business community issues, the SCCI President proposed the establishment of a special committee under the chairmanship of the Governor’s Adviser on Industries and Commerce, with representation from relevant government departments and SCCI. The proposed committee would address business-related issues within its mandate or submit recommendations to the Governor for consideration and approval.
Sarhad Chamber expressed its gratitude to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi for his positive and encouraging response. President Malik Imran Ishaq reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to constructive engagement and continuous consultation with government institutions to resolve business community concerns, secure economic relief, facilitate trade, and promote industrial and economic development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
