Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry senior vice president Sanaullah Khan stressed the need for further cementing bilateral trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Republic of Philippines. The senior office bearer said there is immense potential to enhance mutual trade between Pakistan and the Philippines. He, however, emphasized joint initiatives must be taken to benefit from each other's experiences and potentials to improve trade and economic ties between the two countries. Sanaullah Khan made these remarks during a visit of Maria Agnes M Cervantes, Ambassador of Philippines to Pakistan along with her other members of delegation here at the chamber house on Saturday. In order to improve the security in the provincial metropolis, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry assured the provincial government and police department to extend financial and technical support in implementation of the Safe City Project. The assurance was given by senior vice president of the chamber Sanaullah Khan while chairing a meeting during a visit of Chief Capital Police Office Peshawar Qasim Ali Khan here at the chamber on Wednesday. Sanaullah Khan suggested forming a joint liaison committee between chamber and police department to promptly resolve traders’ community issues. He asserted that a peaceful atmosphere is crucial for promotion of business and trade activities. He assured the traders community will fully cooperate with police during the Muharram. Sanaullah on occasion apprised the meeting about concerns of traders’ community regarding increasing incidents of street crime, snatching and extortion and assured full financial and technical support for execution of Safe City Project in Peshawar. Senior office bearers presented a number of proposals for improving security and traffic system and resolution of the business community issues on which the CCPO fully agreed. Senior police officials assured police would take initiatives as per recommendation of the Sarhad chamber to resolve traders’ community issues. Meeting addressed by Ghazanfar Bilour, Shaukat Khan, Habibullah, Javed Akhtar and office bearers of various Peshawar’ trade unions, bazaar and market associations and gave full assurance to police for cooperation during Muharram and presented number of proposals for resolution of issues. CCPO while responding to various queries from participants of the meeting asked the chamber to present the business community in written and assured proactive steps would be taken to resolve them. He said the business community always extended cooperation in maintenance of law and order during Muharram and confidently said traders would continue their support for peaceful observance of Muharram this year. Ghazanfar Bilour also spoke on the occasion and thanked the CCPO and other high officials for assurance in resolving the business community on priority basis.
Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Fuad Ishaq and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Syed Qasim Ali Shah have agreed to form a joint committee to establish close coordination and relations and resolving issues which were faced by the business community attached with pharmaceutical sector. The committee will consist of two members from the chamber and high officials of the provincial health department, which would frame modalities and strategy to take up issues of the pharma sector with authorities at provincial and central level to address genuine grievances and problems of the business community attached with this sector. Similarly, the committee will make joint efforts to promote pharma industries and business in the province. This agreement came during a meeting between SCCI chief Fuad Ishaq and provincial health minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah at the chamber house here on Thursday. Fuad Ishaq addressed the meeting, stating that despite the difficult condition, pharma industries and business of medicines grew exponentially, which is a welcoming sign. He, however, said the business community attached with the pharma sector was being faced with enormous issues and needed proactive initiatives at governmental level to resolve them amicably. SCCI has prepared a documentary, in which medical tourism was visibly highlighted, Mr Ishaq said. He added medical tourism has a vital role in promotion of trade with regional countries and stressed the need to resolve issues attached with this sector on priority basis. Giving proposals for resolving issues of the pharma sector, Mr Ishaq demanded the provincial government and health department to ensure representation of the chamber in provincial quality control board and Board of Governors (BoGs) of the MTIs Hospitals in Peshawar. He called for enforcement of section 34 of the DRAP with letter and spirit. The chamber president emphasized making the DRAP local office fully functional. He also stressed the provision of facilities to the business community under one window operation. He said all authorized agents should be allowed to participate in tender for sale and purchase of medical equipment. Fuad Ishaq suggested formation of a joint committee between SCCI and Health Department on which the provincial health minister agreed and made an announcement on the spot for the constitution of the committee, which will also notify next week on Monday. Riaz Arshad, former president, also spoke on the occasion, calling for implementation of section 34 of the DRAP Act. Participants of the meeting presented number of demands and proposals, mostly relating to audit of central research fund, bringing uniformity in system, enforcement on principles of guarantee, quality, extending in period of license business community attached medicine business from 2 year to five year, halting of category C, hurdles in sale, supply chain and import of medical equipment and nomination of focal person in the health department. Ghazanfar Bilour also addressed the meeting and expressed hope the minister health will take proactive steps for resolution of the business community issues. Qasim Ali Shah, while responding to various proposals and demands of the business community, announced the constitution of a joint committee of officials of the health department and SCCI members. The minister said the provincial government is committed to provide the best healthcare facilities to people. He said initiatives have been made to promote the local pharma industry and business. He assured the government will take effective measures to resolve business community issues.
President, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Fuad Ishaq stressed enforcement of sustainable and long-lasting policies imperative for economic stability and progress. Fuad urged policy-making institutions and bureaucracy to make consultation with chambers and other stakeholders during framing economic policies so there will be no hurdle to implement them with letter and spirit. He suggested enforcement of the UAE-tax model in Pakistan, stating that it is the only way for making Pakistan’s economy progressive. He called for bringing the tax rate to single digit and further reforms to broaden the tax-base through bringing new people in the net. The SCCI chief demanded that the fiscal budget should be jointly prepared by ICAP, FPCCI and chambers. All constitutional rights on gas, electricity and other natural resources should be ensured Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to flourish business, trade and industry in the province and create employment opportunities to youth, Fuad Ishaq stressed while speaking during an a visit of the participants of the 40th Senior Management Course Officers of National Institute of Management, Islamabad to the chamber house on Thursday. The senior officers’ delegation was headed by Chief Instructor Samreen Zuhra. Abundant of natural resources available in KP despite that this province is lagging behind in race of progress with other province, Mr Ishaq said, adding that owing the front line province in terrorism, business community of this province has confronted with severe hardships and continued their business, trade and industry by rendering matchless sacrifices, which is highly laudable. He expressed concern over putting KP in the RLNG basket despite surplus production of gas. Similarly, he said KP is producing low cost and surplus despite charging equal electricity tariffs with major provinces, which is completely unfair and unjust. The chamber president informed KP oil production of 31,000/per day which is 42 percent of the total production of the country, therefore he demanded establishment of an oil refinery in the province. He said owing to the prevailing scenario, more than 400 to 600 units have shut in the province. Fuad mentioned Pak-Afghan bilateral trade has dropped at $ 500-800million, which had touched $3billion in 2012-13, blaming inconsistent policies for declining the mutual trade volume. The SCCI chief expressed anguish that commercial bank deposits have surged at 15-16 percent in KP against the lending ratio of less than one per cent. He called for revival of DFIs to promote industrialization in the province. He also demanded reactivation of the IDBP in true sense. Fuad Ishaq called for the provision of benefits under the One Belt One Road Initiative of China. He said the law and order situation has improved in the province. He, however, said hunger and poverty have become the cause for rising incidents of snatching, street crime. Earlier, the senior officers were briefed about the SCCI main objectives and future plan and initiatives through a multimedia presentation.

Under the platform of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the business community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa donated funds over Rs7.8 million for orphan children of the renowned institute, SOS Children Village Pakistan, KP. According to details, SOS Children Village Pakistan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chairman Justice (retired) Qalandar Ali Khan and founder of Aziz Jan Institute of Learning and leading industrialist of the KP, Senator Mohsin Aziz arranged an awareness session in the Sarhad chamber for the ‘Kafalat’ of orphan children, which presided over the SCCI president Fuad Ishaq, said in a press release issued here on Sunday. Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Fuad Ishaq and Consul General of Iran in Peshawar Ali Banafsheh Khah have agreed to start a series of online meetings to bring Pakistan-Iran business community closer to each other and bringing duties/tariffs structure equal between Pakistan and Iran. President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Fuad Ishaq urged the government to take pragmatic steps for promotion of foreign investment in the country. The SCCI chief said a conducive environment should be provided for local and foreign investors. He also called for offering special incentives and facilities to foreign investors. The chamber president steered the need of signing the ‘charter of economy’ while keeping view of the prevailing economic instability.
